Adventures in Distance Learning

 This days business is going to confuse me in the end. I'm counting working days (including Fridays even though I don't work them any more) Not much has happened. I've been checking every working day  (2min job) and nothing changed. One person has done the first task but no sign of anyone else doing owt. My first assignment on the course annoyingly could'nt be completed by me.  I'm hoping that this is a setting . I've changed the grade settings to this ... https://docs.moodle.org/310/en/Assignment_settings Weirdly I don't have permissions to grade anything but an 'Editing Trainer' can, so I swapped role and gave my one engaged learner a pass. ( days 3-5 were Friday (I don't work) and the weekend -I managed to control my curiosity ) Quick check of the activity report, I've just discovered the filters seem to have an effect of the output. If you just press submit it shows little detail, if you add filters the output gets more useful. (the redacted name is another admin helping me out) No learners have done anything, even the one learner who did have a look and then left isn't there (they're not on the course anymore so it makes sense) I'm a bit concerned so lets confirm this with the Logs. I won't bore you with the details but it's confirmed - no one's interested. I'm thinking about intervening.

 My curiosity can't be mastered! Again I'm maintaining that this isn't teaching but research on how the Hub works so I'm not on the teaching clock. On the opposite site to the nav bar with the 'full activity report' there's another one. (yours might look a little different - it depends on your role in the course, I'm being a 'Trainer' in this shot) The 'Logs' option is what I was looking for yesterday but discovered I didn't need. It produce data tables you can export and analyse in Excel or whatever and loads of filters to drill done with. I've filtered it just for me and redacted the IP Address. News from the course ... The only person to have done anything (looked at stuff) has now left the course. Seems that they didn't realise it was 12 weeks long (and distance learning). As we advertised the course before finalising the format, it's probably our fault. Lesson learnt.

I needed a diary and at the last minute I realised it was a Blog  My first real on-line teaching experience in a long time. I'm trying to be an exemplar for my team and I thought blogging/reflecting in public might be a good tool. There's some stuff in other format that I'll include later. Right now this is live and I launched the course about 10 am ish (need better data) It's now about 3:00pm. I'm about to see if there has been any impact so far. I find the first question is where to look; the nav bar offers me a 'full activity report' But it doesn't seem very useful I can filter for my group, the activities in the course and it shows me hits but not who (weird) That really is it. Does save me from having to redact the names. Doesn't help me teach. I'm thinking paper reports here, WRONG!, what it gave me was a link to the assignment. Click it and I'm looking at all I need.
